We here in Missouri are hoping that the Tour of Missouri, the world-class bicycling race that came to our state and our city last September, is making a return visit.
As public relations specialists, our agency was asked by the city last year to handle the PR for our region. We jumped at the chance to be a part of such a prestigious event in our target industry, outdoor sports, and in our hometown. Every member of our staff got involved in some way – from hosting national media to coordinating press volunteers to actually emceeing the ceremonies! Now, we’re wondering about the future of a return visit.
Last year, in the midst of planning all the details for the race, state funding that was necessary to pull the event off was in jeopardy. However, when it became obvious that there was already too large of an investment in place and not enough savings to be derived, the funding was there. We hope it will be again.
This exciting event offers Missouri tourism tremendous financial impact and worldwide exposure. By the way, we’re also hoping the event returns to the Missouri State Fairgrounds for the time trial.
Very seldom do we here in the Midwest get the opportunity to host a world class event with some of the most outstanding professional athletes from around the globe.
Let’s make it happen again.
