Your B2B Can’t Afford To Ignore Social Media

B2B clients and prospects we talk with often confide that they’re unsure about how to make Social Media work to their advantage. Do you, too, sense that this opportunity exists, but you just can’t quite put your finger on it? You aren’t alone.

Here’s something we preach: Social Media and Facebook are not one and the same. Social Media and Twitter are not one and the same. The same thing holds true for Linked In. These three services are all social networks, one form of social media. All of their recent attention puts them top-of-mind when the term “social media” comes up. But social media is far more than the sum of these services. That causes confusion for many B2Bs.

Callis & Associates thinks of social media as a toolbox within a larger digital media toolbox with an even larger marketing communication tool cabinet.  Our social media toolbox includes social networking tools like Facebook, Twitter, and Linked In, plus blogs, videos, message boards, podcasts, and wikis. Some tools, we use for nearly every project. Others, we only pull out on occasion. The occasionally used tools are no less valuable. In fact, they’re often more valuable, because they’re perfect when no other tool quite fits the bill.

Effectively used, social media helps a business create and extend their digital footprint. Digital media strategies should integrate with traditional media for the most impact in driving people to communicate with you… in person, on your website, and throughout your extended online presence.

While not every social media tool is right for every situation, we never head into a marketing session without our full toolbox, which always includes our social media tools. Success lies in knowing which tool(s) to use, and when (and how) to use them. Frankly, we’re skilled at that.
