Black cat. Black boots. Black eye. Do you know where I’m going with this? I’ve seen Taco Bell’s new black taco tv commercial so many times I practically count “black sheep” in my sleep.
For whatever reason, this ad seems to be one that resonates with the audience. Some really like it. Others find it annoying. I like the ad, but I haven’t been to Taco Bell to buy any black tacos yet. Maybe I’m not the target audience. Maybe I wouldn’t even like them. But you know what, people are talking about this ad. People remember it, they remember the brand, and remember the product. What more can you ask for with your advertising investment?
The thing is, until yesterday nobody that I’ve talked to about this commercial had bought the tacos. It doesn’t mean they won’t some night at 1 am when they drive by with the munchies, they just haven’t yet. Is that the advertising’s fault? I don’t think so because Taco Bell also has a complimentary ad running now where they actually sell the product, versus just building awareness for it. It all seems to make sense. I just hope they sell some tacos.
